AFTERCARE

Healing is part of the art. Follow these guidelines for clean healing, long-lasting results, and fewer complications.

IMPORTANT NOTICE

These are general guidelines. Your artist or piercer may provide specific instructions based on your tattoo/piercing. Always follow their recommendations. If you notice any signs of infection (excessive redness, swelling, pus, fever, heat, streaking), contact your artist/piercer or seek medical attention immediately.

TATTOO

KEEP IT CLEAN

Wash your tattoo 2–3 times daily with fragrance-free antibacterial soap. Pat dry gently with a clean paper towel.

DAYS 1–14

MOISTURIZE REGULARLY

Apply a thin layer of fragrance-free lotion or a specialized tattoo aftercare product 2–3 times daily.

DAYS 3–30

AVOID SUN EXPOSURE

Keep your new tattoo out of direct sunlight for at least 2–3 weeks. Always use SPF 50+ sunscreen after healing.

FIRST 3 WEEKS

DON'T SCRATCH OR PICK

Your tattoo will itch as it heals. Never scratch or pick at scabs—this can damage the tattoo and cause infection.

THROUGHOUT HEALING

AVOID SOAKING

No swimming pools, hot tubs, or long baths for 2–3 weeks. Quick showers are fine.

DAYS 1–21

WEAR LOOSE CLOTHING

Avoid tight clothing that rubs against your new tattoo. Let it breathe and heal naturally.

FIRST 2 WEEKS

TATTOO HEALING TIMELINE

DAYS 1–6

INITIAL HEALING

Expect some redness, swelling, and oozing. This is normal. Keep the area clean and apply a thin layer of ointment.

DAYS 7–14

PEELING STAGE

Your tattoo will start to peel like a sunburn. Do NOT pick at the peeling skin. Keep moisturizing.

DAYS 15–30

FINAL HEALING

The tattoo may look dull or cloudy. Continue moisturizing. The vibrant colors will return.

AFTER 30 DAYS

FULLY HEALED

Your tattoo is fully healed! Always protect it with sunscreen to maintain its vibrancy.

PIERCING

CLEAN 2× DAILY

Clean with sterile saline spray or a saline soak 2 times per day. Avoid alcohol, peroxide, or harsh soaps.

FIRST 4–8 WEEKS

DON’T TOUCH / TWIST

Avoid touching unless cleaning. Do not twist the jewelry. Hands carry bacteria and irritation delays healing.

THROUGHOUT HEALING

AVOID IRRITANTS

Keep makeup, hair products, and dirty water away from new piercings. Avoid pools/hot tubs until your piercer clears you.

FIRST 4–12 WEEKS

SLEEP SMART

Avoid sleeping directly on the piercing (especially ear piercings). Use a travel pillow or sleep on the opposite side.

FIRST 2–8 WEEKS

JEWELRY CHANGES

Don’t remove or change jewelry too early. If you need downsizing or a change, come back to the studio.

ASK YOUR PIERCER

SALINE ONLY

Sterile saline is your best friend. Keep it simple: clean, rinse, and let it heal. Over-cleaning can irritate.

DAILY

PIERCING HEALING GUIDANCE

WEEKS 1–2

SETTLING IN

Swelling/tenderness is normal. Clean gently with saline. Avoid pressure, friction, and sleeping on it.

WEEKS 3–8

REDUCED SWELLING

Irritation bumps can happen from snagging or over-cleaning. Keep hair/makeup away and don’t twist jewelry.

MONTHS 2–6+

FULL HEALING VARIES

Healing depends on location and your body. Ear cartilage and some body piercings can take longer. Ask your piercer anytime.
